Ubuntu 12.04 LTS & Radeon 7000

    Hi All,
    I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on an old Dell I have and the install went pretty well. I have a Radeon 7000/VE graphics card installed and have two monitors on it. The desktop is cloned onto the second monitor. So my question is, does anybody know how to sort it so that I have an extended desktop and not the same image on both monitors.

    I tried doing a fresh install upto 13.04 but I found the computer was running very slow so I went back to 12.04 again. I can use the terminal box so if there is any info anyone needs to help diagnose the issue please ask. I tried the Ubuntu help forum but I found I was out of my depth with a lot of the stuff on it.

    Thank you. It is not checked but is greyed out. It is showing the monitor as a laptop but I am using a Dell inspiron tower.

    Further to this I have also tried installing Puppy Linux Slacko 5.5 and openSUSE 12.3 and both of them have the same issue. I checked the xorg information on both and they both see the Redeon card as been correctly installed but I still cannot extend my desktop onto the second monitor rather then it been cloned. I think the card might be to old so I will try another few bits and bobs and see if I can sort it. If not I will just leave it the way it is.

    sounds like you dont have the amd driver installed ...? you need to do this manually
