    Hi guys,

I'm an NQT . I'm getting stuck in to the prescribed texts for 14/15. I want to be well prepared for Sept ( fingers crossed I get something).

As regards texts, I presume most Eng departments will have decided what to cover for the coming year or can individual teachers choose?

Also, what kind of comparative combinations are you going for?

As I said, I'm new to the process and want to know the texts well before Sept.

    Thanks!

In my school the three English teachers covered different texts with the exception of Shakespeare. Everyone decided for themselves what they wanted to study and informed the other teachers. I have no idea how it works in other schools. Macbeth was covered as the single text for both levels by all teachers to allow for changing levels in students. Comparative wise for 2014 HL, the teacher is covering Sive, How Many Miles to Babylon and Inside I'm Dancing, OL hasn't been finalised yet.

This year I covered The Constant Gardener & My Sisters Keeper for OL English. I looked at the theme of exploitation & then the resolution of story. I was going to add in Never Let Me Go too but two texts were enough for this group. HL studied Sive, How Many Miles and I'm Not Scared.

For the 2015 exam, I would concentrate on Shakespeare for the moment as it will definitely be covered either in the comparative or as a single text by the majority of students. I'm doing the same myself at the minute building up a resource bank for Othello! You could still use Othello for OL too. Good luck on the job hunt!

Brill! Thanks for the info. So hard to know what to prep when I don't know where or who I'll be teaching. Best just to get my head around as much as I can.

Reading Othello at the mo, enjoying it myself which is a good sign!
