Ok so I know Indian men dont get great press when it comes to treaing women well, but Im curious to hear a guys side of it. Im a man and we have had 5 Indian men in our workplace this year to help out as external contractors on machinery. In all cases, and the Indians ranged in age from 26 to 55, they were most ignorant and rude to female members of staff, ignored and scoffed at suggestions from women managers and technicians, left doors slam in their faces and generally treated them with barely disguised contempt.

On the other hand, men were treated with a lot of respect, doors left open, any qs they had only ask a man, and they even took on board some ill informed ideas from new employees who were, yes, male. Now I know all races have good and bad people and Im not trying to paint them all with the same brush but its notable that these men came from different companies so it wasnt just one warped culture, just interested how have people (men and women) found Indians as employees and their treatment of women?

There would be a lot of truth to that I'd reckon. A few women I would know have mentioned similar about working with Indians, My sister was in India once on a business trip and from her experiences there she won't be going back either.

Some people just can't get their heads around the fact that women are people too, Its no coincidence that most of the real poverty stricken nations are those that treat their women as objects/property..

Ignorant nonsense. I have in the past had numerous female Indian colleagues (as in, living in India working offshore) working as project managers in IT projects. It was not unusual for women to hold project manager and above roles.

That may count as boring, but there no dishes involved.

    Suuuure you're not.

What way honestly do you think this thread will go in all fairness? Some will say yes, some will say no, and then another thread will come off the back of it asking are all Irish bitter bastards when they feel they have a point to make but nobody gives a shìt?

I only ever worked with two Indian men - one was an ignorant asshole who on a few occasions went to slap female staff, including myself, across the face, thought better of it and pretended to pat their faces. I'd say if he were back in India he would have slapped them! He didn't take to being told what to do kindly by female staff either and he was constantly putting his hands on us and grabbing at us - until he was complained. I don't think it was because he was Indian - I think he was just an asshole, pure and simple.

The other guy was a gentleman, hard working and soft spoken. He was a pure pleasure to work with. Noone ever had a bad word to say about him male or female.

Moral of the story- everyone is different.

I'm not very good at estimating but there are probably about 300 Billion Indian men of that age in the world. You can be sure that only about 38% are as you describe so that's only 144 Billion Indians who survived the colonisation of the USA.

OP, I've met hundreds of Indian men in and outside of India and they've been of all kinds: nice, not so nice, average, whatever.

Conclusion: No, they are not all like the ones you've met.

the Indian men I know and have recently met have all been Gentlemen ti a fault. You can't generalise about a population as big and diverse as that of India. I'd say I have met far more boorish ignorant cabogue Irishmen per capita!

A thread discussing the merits of stereotypes of an entire culture is not something that is ever going to go well so let's just jump to the end of this one early.
