Windows Vista Internet - Local Access Only

Have had this problem for a while but now I'm really stuck, I'm travelling at the moment and have my laptop with me. I have been unable to access the Internet in 6 of the last 7 hotels I've stayed in because despite successfully connecting to the hotels wi-fi, it says that I have "Local access only".

I am unable to go online on my laptop but I can do it on my phone with no issues, as can people I'm travelling with who can also get it on their laptops.

Does anyone know what this issue is and how I can fix it? I really need to access the Internet from my laptop and this has been an absolute nightmare to deal with.

    Any suggestions or advice appreciated.

Check the wifi connection's properties; it should be set to get IP address and DNS server automatically, part of IPv4 properties.

Had a look, can't figure out how to set it to get IP address automatically, not knowledgable at all on these things :(

On the properties sheet for the wifi, click Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4), click the properties button, two radio buttons for the IP and DNS

NOT the ones selected in that image........

    Open internet explorer
    tools
    internet options
    connections
    lan settings

make sure automatically detect settings radio button is ticked and the "use proxy server" one is unticked/

Also go start, cmd (new window opens) type in ipconfig and see what the ip address is...post it here
