Buying a new brand A car from brand B main dealer?

If I were to order say, a new Audi from a VW main dealer, would I be able to get the same discount, or trade-in allowance as I would expect from the Audi main dealer? (My trade-in is a spotless low mileage 2011 VW Jetta 1.6 TDI.)

Also, would the VW dealer be able to honour any warranty work down the road?

I know recent changes mean you can order any brand from any dealer but just wondering how this sort of deal works in real life.


The VW dealer I have in mind is not an Audi dealer nor are they approved Audi service agents either, but if everything were equal, I would like to deal with them as they've been good to deal with previously.

Opinions welcome.

You'd need to compare the prices to a franchised dealer.

Nothing to stop you going to a different place for service/warranty work.

I know people who have done this before and not had any issue. Like anything you buy, if anything goes wrong with it, you return it to the point of sale and they deal with the manufacturer.

A lot of VW dealers are also Audi dealers as they are in the same group, but its not always that way. Cars are similar so I cant see any problem.

Any warranty work would need to be carried out by an authorized Audi dealer or service centre I'd imagine as they charge back the cost of the parts and labour to Audi.

What you pay for it depends on a number of factors, how much the VW dealer buys it for, whether he buys it from an Audi dealer or directly from the Distributor, how much margin he has on it and what he wants with your Jetta.

I wonder would audi give the same level of goodwill outside warranty?

Audi have restructured their dealer franchises nationwide recently, there are a lot less Audi dealers out there than there used to be. For example, Limerick and Tipperary don't have Audi dealers anymore, at present.

90% sure the OP would return it to the VW garage, the point of sale, as per consumer rights laws. Its up to the VW dealer then to get the work done by the approved Audi dealer if required.

My understanding of Goodwill is it usually dependent on how much of a strong case the dealer in question puts to the manufacturer as generally the dealer will make some sort of money if the customer has to contribute towards the labour costs.

Mmm, I'd want to be 100% clear on this up front before buying as Audi may not want to deal with a non franchised dealer when it comes to warranty work especially a former franchised dealer who may not have parted with the franchise on good terms.

The car would need to go to an Audi dealer to get any warranty work carried out while under warranty.

I'd imagine it would be up to the OP to do this depending on the relationship he has with the VW dealer.
