great tune but that's kim i hear on it.... recorded towards the end of last year...

I'm not doubting that it's Kim's voice. Just a shame that they only got around to this now that it's announced she's gone.

Great song . Thanks for posting. Pity about Kim Deal leaving.

I've only listened to it a few times but I'm not really liking it. Guitar doesn't sound so nice and it's a little aimless.... I'll come back to it. Nice to hear Kim Deal's voice.

Was a bit disappointed by this also! :(

Its better than Bam Thwok - at this rate they'll release something really good in 2029

I like the verses but would have preferred a better chorus. Also it drags on a bit too long, which is weird for a Pixies song. Video is cool though. Hope they recorded more songs before Kim left; it's just not Pixies without her. :(
Oh and I'm (seemingly) one of the few who actually really liked Bam Thwok - can't believe that was 9 years ago now!

Well Kim was always against recording new material yet Bam Thwok was her baby. She's on this and apparently it was recorded at the end of last year and if rumours are to be believed this isn't the only thing they were recording.

That's not Kim on the track, it's one of Francis's buddies impersonating her.

I'm a huge Pixies fan but this is pretty poor. The Pixies without Kim Deal is not the Pixies. Whatever interest I had in a new album is gone.

Kim was initially on the record but her parts were overdubbed (by Mr Dubs) once she decided to leave. Couldn't care less about her presence or lack thereof, it was always Black Francis' baby, while Santiago defined their sound.

    It's a good song.

I'd have Francis on both counts there TBH.
Best left dead on this evidence for me.

I think this is fuccking shiite, and I'm going to forget about it and pretend that the Pixies are still perfect.

Poor for me, am a massive fan. I think I am happy she left and am telling myself it's because she didnt want to compromise their awesome back catalogue with watery ****e....wish I could unlisten to this.

It's far from being that bad. Sounds like you hated it before listening to it.

And you could equally say that if it wasn't the Pixies that song would have gone precisely nowhere.

savage song ..i could'nt care less if kim deal is not involved or not ..classic pixies tune:)

I have only listened to it a couple of times, decent enough, but nothing special.

Does anyone know why Kim left? Is she recording new Breeders stuff or did she have a problem with the direction the Pixies were going? I know the Pixies was all Frank Black (bar half a song and some lyrics, apparently) but I'm not sure what the difference between Pixies without Kim and a Frank Black solo album would be (bar better drumming and better guitar).

As in if it wasn't The Pixies, this song is so nondescript that we wouldn't even be having a conversation about it.

If it wasn't the Pixies you might be listening to it without the same sense of anticipation. You're judging it by their back catalogue and not on its merits.

TBH, no. I was already iffy at Bossanova and was half glad they split at Trompe Le Monde. I wasn't expecting much and that's what I got here.

It knocks spots off any other band who have attempted comebacks lately. It has that classic pixies guitar sound but is commonplace today maybe thats why it might not sound outstanding.Love BF vocals in this as well..
And tbh honest there hasn't being much to get excited about lately. The only other band I rate as making a decent comeback album are PiL.
I would welcome a new pixies album if it was at this quality or hopefully higher.A bad album would taint their legacy and Bossnova iffy? you really are hard to please:)

Not a great song , just hope the the worst of a bunch of new great songs. Not too bothered about Kim leaving she seemed to be the one that was holding the group from releasing new material.
Even bad Pixies songs are better than most other bands. Interestingly their site says
"This will kick off the first tour the Pixies have done in nearly two years, and will give them an opportunity to do something they haven't been able to do in two decades: premiere brand new Pixies songs, the first collection of new material since 1991's Trompe le Monde."

So hopefully a new album !

nope, thats not Kim Deal you hear on it. Its Jeremy Dubs.

totally agree. they were a great band with something to say 25 years ago. this pixies is basically out to earn the cash and thats about it.

They are solely out to earn cash by making and releasing new music? Sure enough the last few tours were mostly about the money (though new music certainly would have been released had it not been for one Kim Deal) but how can you assert that now when they've actually become a viable music-making band again?

I listened to it with great hope and interest

I didn't like it, simple really.

I find the verse annoying and the melody in the chorus fairly uninspired. For me you can detect the lack of spark and chemistry, at this stage after all their personal problems it sounds very much like a band going through the motions, trying to rediscover something which as a collective they don't have anymore.

I do believe that Deal saw this and called time. I certainly dont begrudge such an awesome band a greatest hits tour with or without Deal, but I wouldn't want to hear new material if this was the standard.

heard it on the radio without knowing who it was and i was hooked pretty much straight away... of course when the dj said it was the pixies i went 'oh yeah!'...

Not bad. Didn't like it on my 1st listen, but it's growing on me.

New music? two songs in what, a decade? Plus new material that, if it werent the pixies, probably wouldnt even be talked about its on such a low par compared to what they were doing in the 80s. The pixies were a fantastic band years ago. They arent anymore.
