Why are the points so high? .. Is dentistry really hard or is there huge demand?

Points for all courses are based purely on demand.

Any predictions at this stage are completely baseless and pointless. They're more guesses than predictions.

There is no jobs in it anymore. Dentist can barely make a living in Ireland doing it at the moment. Have any of you considered going to study in places like Hungary? Alot of the German speakers go to medical school and dental school in Hungary.

My friend is a dentist and after doing the course you can straight away go into practice. You can be private or public and it's an international degree too so I think because it's such a flexible degree it's high demanded,

Not too many unemployed Dentists around I'd imagine ;)

The points are so high because it's popular.
It's popular because it's perceived to be a very well paid job.
This would be my perception also

The location in Dublin adds another dose of points to almost courses.

"Prestige" profession with the potential for high earnings leads to high demand, matched against relatively small number of available places, leads to high points.

Anybody heading to Trinity? I can't believe there are only 32 or something in a class!

I'm planning to go Trinity next year hopefully, it will be my first choice anyway. I'm shocked the points actually dropped this year!

Yeah class size is pretty small, that would suggest including Cork 60-70 graduates a year?
