Guess this is because of the competition of BT.
    Only problem is Jamie Carragher!

Sky Sports will launch its biggest ever season of Premier League football by offering free live action from the first day of the season for every home in Britain.

From August, Sky Sports viewers can enjoy more live Barclays Premier League matches than ever before. There will be 116 live fixtures on Sky Sports featuring the big head to heads and every club at least five times across Saturday evenings, Sunday double-headers, Monday nights and bank
    holidays.

To celebrate the first day of the Premier League season and Sky Sports’ new line up of football, programmes from Sky Sports 1 will replace the regular programming on Sky 2 (on Sky and other pay TV services) and Pick TV (on Freeview and You View) on Saturday 17th August. The takeover means millions of home viewers can enjoy a live Premier League match, a Football League fixture, plus a host of other football shows at no cost.

The free day will include the brand new show, ‘Saturday Night Football’, for Sky’s 5.30pm Saturday evening Premier League fixture. The show is part of Sky Sports’ new look ‘weekend of football’ which also includes the new pairing of Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville for ‘Monday Night
Football’ and a new Saturday schedule running from Soccer AM all the way through to extended evening highlights of all 3pm matches

Eh, this is grade and all but we're not in Britain.... Are you sure this'd apply to us as well?

Hardly much competition - BT will show the same crappy games that Setanta and ESPN used to show. (Setanta are showing the BT games here).

Yes it does “It’s our biggest ever season of Premier League football and we’re inviting over one million Irish households to enjoy the opening day,” says Sky Sports managing director Barney Francis.

The time might be different. Sky will still have all the biggest games.

BT have a number of "first choice options" for a weekend of games. Last season Sky had all of them. I can't remember the exact number.

espn was grand for us in ireland on sky because it came free with the sports package.
pity it wasn't a similar deal with BT, can't see myself parting with €17 a month on top of the sky subscription for setanta/bt, i doubt many people will but won't get into that here, seeing as this is a bargain alert topic and there's probably a thread elsewhere on BT.

What is the problem with Carragher? I think himself and Neville will make great entertainment, far better than Andy Gray and Richard Keyes anyway!!

How do you get BT here? Is it on satellite?

It comes as part of the Setanta premium package. They haven't announced if the monthly price for this will rise or not. The annual price will stay the same but most people didn't seem to know there was an annual price for Setanta.

i checked their website earlier and it's half price for 2 months (8.50 euro per month) so then it'd be €17. they couldn't possibly try charge anymore than that. i think they'll struggle at €17, i mean people have other ways of watching these matches, err, down the pub i mean ;)

Yes. On Sky 2. I doubt it will be free on Pick TV via satellite. European rights holders would have a fit.

Pick TV on Freeview in the UK will definitely have it.

Just checked the TV listings for Saturday, and it's not on Pick TV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,717 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Just as an aside- are those streaming service for Sky Sports still on the go ? I subscribed to one last season (think it was First Row Sports) but after a month the sub got cancelled by them. Luckily I'd paid through Google Wallet so got a full refund.

Now that the season is upon us I'm wondering is there similar services out there ?

Checked on DigiGuide and according to that Pick TV this Saturday from 10am to 8pm is the same schedule as Sky Sports One

Have a look at the last few pages of the Liveonlinefooty thread in the Soccer forum.

Pick TV is on freeview terrestrial TV Channel 11. The signal is received via your TV Aerial. (Broadcast from N. Ireland) It is showing Sky Sports at the moment.

Pick TV on satellite is not showing Sky Sports.

Pick tv showing sky sports via an aerial is also available free to viewers in south Wicklow and co wexford from the preseli transmitter in Wales.
I'm watching it now in Arklow.
