    Hi,
day you buy is the day you think of selling so ...
what cars makes/models are in high demand?
Given many new cars weren't sold in the dark years of 2008-2010, what are the models in demand from this period?
    Thanks

If the day you buy is the day you think of selling, you've bought the wrong car.

    lol ....

been burned badly in the past with buying new (Volvo) and buying bad models (Citroen C4) when it came to re-sale value so want to get something that will give me a decent trade-in in a couple of years.
German 2.0D models like A4, 320 and 520 probably best but there are shed loads on the usual sites that aren't really shifting.

Would like something a bit different though - 320Cd perhaps? A5 is pricey but does this mean they will hold their value I wonder...

    Thanks

They will sell easily, however the issue for this segment is there is high demand matched to ample supply, everyone bought a 2.0TDI.. they therefore sell primarily on pricing.

If you want something that won't lose anything either buy a really cheap car i.e sub €2k or an older classic car. Plenty of them about and the right one may well appreciate in value.

No matter how high the demand is for a 320d it's still going to depreciate - just by a lesser margin than others. Speaking of 320d's wonder what resale will be like on those from late '07 to 2010(?) with the timing chain issue.

lol. does anything like that even exist? Diesel only looks a good value at the pump not when you need to fix it. :pac:

Laugh if ye want but a Corolla/Auris 1.4 D4D seem to hold their value well. The cars themselves are nothing special or that well built either but seem to command a lot of money on the s/h car market due to the brands past reputation Imo.

I think the way Audi Ireland have changed there business model in Ireland will have a catastrophic effect on future residuals in the near future, along with the fact that if your MMI radio goes it'll cost about 4k to replace.
    "Just saying"

wife put her Nissan March/Micra, 1 litre Auto 2001 up on DoneDeal. Phone rang off the hook for 3 days. Bought for €2200 4 years ago in Cavan car auctions, got €1250. Only oil, filters, front pads and 2 tyres in that time. Cheap motoring!

It depends on the car, in the last 2 years I have sold my Audi s3, e46 320d, e39 530d and e60 525d very easily and very very close to asking price. All within 2-3 weeks of advertising each car.

Just bought an 09 1.4 petrol Toyota Corolla Luna. Little bit worried about selling on due to the importance people are placing on diesel, low tax/emissions etc but as I got a very good deal on it, hoping that this will mean I can afford to drop the price on it enough to sell in a few years when I'm upgrading.... Don't know much about cars by any means but have been warned about the high tax (€570) impacting the resale. Interested in any thoughts people would have on this.

You should have held out for a 1.33 corolla. Better engine and gearbox and lower tax. Or an avensis.

Unless you got it incredibly cheap.

Or a UK spec Auris which got the new 1.33 litre engine back in 2009.

Of that list I'd say 2 cars (A3 and fiat 500) do well second hand over here.

I have a Toyota Yaris 2000 1.0l, its running perfectly was thinking of selling, do you think I'd be mad to sell should I just keep driving until theres no more life left in her and that could be years?

Depends on what you want to replace it with and how much you like the car.

Nah you're wasting your time, the yaris didn't change model till late 05, so all you'd be doing is getting a slightly different version of your own car.

And a poorer version at that imo.

I'm talking the facelift model as OP is only going up a few years.
I quite like the Strata model they did in mid 2005 and the Blue special edition from 04 but there'd be little point in spending money just for the reg plate.
