So scientists in Japan have cloned a mouse from a single drop of blood and in total have created nearly 600 exact genetic copies of one mouse after 25 consecutive rounds of cloning.
The research is aimed at large-scale production of high-quality animals for farming or conservation purposes.

The idea that you could find the best beef and just clone it forever is great, but I'm not sure I'm very comfortable with the idea.
Conservation purposes is a great idea IMO, hell if they took cloning to the extreme we could eat any and every animal we want again, the rare ones are bound to be the tastiest.

    What do you think AH?

I don't know why they're bothering cloning animals when the tastiest animal is in plentiful supply all around us.

    Humans.

Wouldn't make sense to breed meat eaters.

Cloning in the form of cuttings and tissue culture is used extensively in mushroom and fruit farming. Cloning to mass produce a good specimen of an animal is just good farming practice.

People often confuse cloning with genetic modification but they are completely separate things.

On that QI program I think they were saying some giant tortoise species went extinct as they were all eaten. I think they were transporting it back and all the sailors kept eating them.

Each whaling ship would collect between 500-600 tortoises to provide fresh meat for their crews. It has been written that “whaling skippers were almost lyrical in their praise of tortoise meat, terming it far more delicious than chicken, pork or beef”. They said the meat of the giant tortoise was “succulent meat and the oil from their bodies as pure as butter,

Just breed more food for the meat-eaters. And give humans big guns
