Damage to one tyre - looking for advice

    Ok, looking for some tyre advice.

    I spotted last night that the front left tyre was soft, and upon in inspection noticed some damage to the side of the tyre (see attached). Cuts are deeper than you can see in the picture. Brought car to a local tyre place who recommend replacing it. Only 15,000mls on the clock.

    The problem is they may not be able to source the exact same tyre, and I’m concerned about having a mis-match in terms of tyre type and wear on the front axle. Replacing both front tyres would be expensive as I expect each to cost around €200.

    Am I right to be concerned? Any advice?

    Car = 2012 Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCI
    Existing Tyres = GoodYear Excellence (225 / 50R17 98W)

    Once the thread pattern is the same it's not the end of the world.

    Ideally yes you'd want to be replacing both tyres though

    Could you swap one of the rear tyres to the front and mis match the back ones?

    Replace the one tyre and use the spare as a match

    There's no spare in the Ford Galaxy. :(

    I suppose I could swap the two rear tyres to the front, and put the replacement on the rear. That sound like a plan?

    Those tyres should be 140 each at the most.

    Buy two new use non damaged tyre on that axle as as a spare and get a steel ford wheel from a scrap yard.

    The matching tyre has done 15,000 km, it must be more than half worn by now. I'd replace both.

    As for swapping to the back - you need rear grip, too. Even FWD cars can lose the rear on a wet corner.

    Swap the rears to the front, replace damaged tyre, put it and undamaged tyre on rear axle. I assume the tyres are asymmetric / directional.

    I'm surprised there is no "XL" (eXtra Load) on the tyres signifying reinforced side-walls for a people-carrier.

    Thank you all. Just checked the current tyres, and they are indeed "extra load" versions.
