my new laptop has an awful screen

I needed a new laptop after my very old one died and decided to get a lenovo ideapad s300 from argos when the price dropped to 400 euros about a week ago. when i got it home, i was impressed with how thin and light it was, but after switching it on and using it i am so disappointed in the screen, the colors are washed out and everything has a blueish purple tint. i improved it a bit by calibrating it in settings but it still doesn't look the way it should.

argos has a policy of no returns unless there is a fault and when i called their customer help line they said this wouldn't be classed as a fault. i do some light graphic work and photo editing which i can't do on this laptop at all due to the colors being all wrong. even looking at youtube just annoys me because i can tell it doesn't look right. it's a shame because the laptop is quite nice otherwise, very comfortable to type on, quiet, runs cool. it only has a pentium 997 1.6 ghz but runs adobe programs fine.

would it be worth getting a monitor like this http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/LG-22EA63V-22andquot-IPS-LED-Monitor/314744/113
to hook it up to? ie: would the ips monitor correct the dodgy colors.

I'd say the first thing to do would hook it up to any monitor you have access to or your TV and see if the colour issue is replicated (in case it's an issue with the graphics card as opposed to the physical screen).
Might be also worth updating/reinstalling the driver for the graphics card

It's a fault, you can sometimes get a brand new laptop with issues. It's either the onboard graphics or the screen. But you should make your way back to Argos asap as their customer service is a bit rubbish at times & they may try & palm you off directly to lenovo

I don't think they will see it as a fault, and yes they will most likely try and get me to get onto lenovo. Some people might not notice it if they aren't into graphics or photography. To me its obvious but I could see them saying nothing is wrong. Though today the windows updates failed to install which could be a fault...

Brought it back and they said they'll send it off to the repair center and see if it is the graphics card but I think its more of a case of buy cheap buy twice, I'll try hooking it up telly when it gets back as suggested before getting the IPS monitor.
