Travelling to New Zealand

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me with some advice regarding travelling to New Zealand! I'm thinking of heading away for a year or maybe longer if visas etc worked out for me. I'm just wondering what people's experiences are having been there?
Is it easy enough to find work - I'm not too fussed about what I do, but would like to get something that would pay enough to travel a bit too?
Also if I decided to teach is it a major hassle to sort registration, documents etc... is it worth it for someone who may only stay a few months??
I'd also quite like to find some other Irish people there if I end up going on my own so what areas are good to think about basing myself in, as regards working and meeting others?
Thanks for any any and all replies!!
