    Hi there,

We have a friendly scramble competition at the weekend but some teams will have two and some have three.

What would be a fair calculation of team handicaps considering players will have anything from 10 to 28?

    Thanks

In my home club we use 10% of the combined handicap in a 3man scramble and 20% in a 2man scramble, we also have a rule the 4 drives must be used from each player.
To be honest if you playing 2 and 3 person teams in the same event I'm not sure how you can make it work and keep it fair.

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately we have no chance to have teams other than way I wrote so am trying to make it as fair as possible.

teams with 4 play mexican, teams with 3 play normal.
i.e. teams with 4 players : the player whos shot you choose doesnt hit the next shot.
(so 4 people drive, you pick the drive of player A and then B, C, D hit from there to the green. You choose player B's approach so players A, C, D take a putt, etc, etc)
also you have to use 3 of everyones drives (or 4 if you are feeling nasty)

Its still not 100 % fair but at least now they are only getting an extra drive per hole and more pressure on when to use it.

    Thanks Greebo.
Its two man and three man teams but to be honest its only a small tournament with negliable prizes.
Am gonna use the 10% and 20% formula I think and see if everyone is happy with that.

    sorry misread it!
Id still go with the same idea though, giving twice as many shots seems a bit weird to me...

    Hi,
Put the lower handicappers together and give them 20% and keep the higher handicappers together off 10%. 2 10's will give them 4 shots and 3 20's will give them 6 shots. Don't put a team of 2 high handicappers out together.
3 drives max as well not fair on the teams of 3 having to have 4.

In my experience that doesnt work out.
A team of low guys typically beats anyone else, the problem with percentages is that the higher the handicap the more shots you lose.
