    Well guys,
Gonna be taking my sump off soon as the gasket/sealer is leaking.

Am i better off buying a proper gasket or can i just silicone like tec7?

    Thanks

Use a proper gasket with a little gasket sealer for good measure. Sealer on its own may work, but its going to be a pain in ass, to take the sump off again, if it doesn't!

Anaerobic sealants are pretty good but still I'd use a real gasket and torque correctly.

The majority of newer cars don't have a gasket.

Lot's of manufacturers are using sealant now.

Preparation is the key. When it's all cleaned spotless use a degreaser aerosol and wipe with a clean cloth.

Get the correct sealer that's tolerant of oil, coolant, fuel, heat etc and it will do the job better than any gasket.

Can anyone recommend a good sealer ?

The sealer VW use is good, available out of any VW dealer and it isn't that expensive.

As someone else pointed out, prep is the key! Make sure both the sump and black are clean of everything

I generally use dirko for sumps that don't have proper gaskets and have never had an issue with it. very few manufacturers use gaskets any more, if the car has a gasket originally get a good quality after market replacement eg el-ring
