Query on license categories if anyone can help. What category does a ford transit van fit into on a licence? Also if you are pulling a standard (small open) trailer what category would that fall into?

    Thanks!

A Transit is license category B, same as a car. You can two a trailer up to 750kg laden on that. Anything bigger and/or more elaborate will require a BE license. Bear in mind that you can use any combination of vehicle and trailer, provided that the plated weight (i.e. design gross vehicle weight) of the whole rig does not exceed 3,500kg.

Most transits are below 3.5 tonnes GVW (gross vehicle weight - which is unladen weight + maximum possible load).

Your category B licence allows you to drive vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes GVW.

Trailer towed on B licence, can be of GVW of 750kg or heavier, but if heavier there are few conditions to be fulfilled.
    1. Trailer GVW must not be greater than unladen towing vehicle weight.
    2. Sum of trailer GVW and towing vehicle GVW must not exceed 3500kg.
