    Hey guys n gals

So I'm wanting to buy video camera but I need it to have support to connect to an external monitor.

The image which is being picked up buy the camera needs to be outputed not only to the small viewfinder screen on the video camera but also to an external monitor.

So to put it simply whatever the camera sees the monitor/screen most show at all times.

Is this a standard feature these days for a camcorder?

Secondly I'm looking to get a cheap video camera preferably digital that will easily interface with a computer that doesn't have tapes. It needs to be HD.

That's really all the features i'm looking for. Are there any features that are a must have and can you recommend any cheap entry level cameras that have these features. If I could pick one up for €300 or less that would be brilliant.

Another option I'd be willing to look into would be would be buying a mid range DSLR for about €500 that has this monitor output feature.

Most modern SLRs can stream video on HDMI. You can also remote control them using a computer:

But not directly store video AFAIK.

Some of the higher end dSLRs like the Nikon D4 and the 5D3 output 'clean' video, but you'll need some hardware to capture it.

What your describing sounds like a security camera system. But I don't think that's what your looking for.
There are apps for mobile phone that will stream video too.
Last suggestion, the latest gopro does have Wi-Fi and remote viewing while recording, might be something to look into.

No it's not is so a bunch of us can be sitting around setting up a shot. I figured it would be easier for 2-3 people to view a monitor than the screen on a video camcorder / DSLR. Also it has to record in full HD.

I'd actually prefer a DSLR because I wanted to buy one anyway for personal use.

This job I'm talking about for now is a one off work job so hence I want to only spend €200 - €300 tops on the camcorder. I'd be happy to spend up to €600 on a nice DSLR and lens (it will be my first DSLR so thats' enough money for a newbie). But it would also need to have the ability to use a monitor as the 'viewport'

I have a compact camera at the moment that can play back recorded video on any monitor with an HDMI input. However I can't setup the camera and everyone can see on the monitor what the camera is currently pointing at.

If I even knew the proper term for the feature that I'm describing that would go a long way! :)

Then I could call around some of the vendors and ask their sales reps directly :) I just thought I'd try here first because there's a lot of knowledgable people on boards.
