    Taken from The Nationalist.

A top National Museum expert will shed light on the history behind Carrick-on-Suir’s Gold Coin Hoard in the town’s Carraig Hotel this evening, (Wednesday, June 26).

Isabella Mulhall, Assistant Keeper of Antiquities at the National Musuem of Ireland, will give a lecture on the hoard of 81 gold coins dating from the 17th century that were found under the floor of Cooney’s Pub on Main Street in January.

The lecture called “Striking Gold in Tipperary - The Discovery of the Carrick-on-Suir Gold Coin Hoard” starts at 7.15pm and entry is free.

Ms Mulhall visited Cooney’s Bar following the coins’ discovery by construction workers and carried out a detailed examination of the site.

The coins will go on temporary display in the County Museum in Clonmel later this year and efforts are ongoing to exhibit them in Carrick-on-Suir’s Ormond Castle for a day.
