How to make a VRT Appeal?

Anyone any advice on how to make a VRT appeal?

I bought a car (VW Passat estate) on the basis of the vrt site quoting €1,900 vrt but1 week later when I went to pay the vrt had increased to €3,900!!!

Despite having the paperwork printed from the vrt site saying €1900 the revenue did not accept this in my first appeal.

So I am going to appeal again on the basis that they have the car overvalued.

So how best to prove the vehicle was overvalued???

Do you have to get an independent valuation from a dealer or do you send in copies of advertisements of similar cars?

Any advice from anyone who has any experience would be greatly appreciated.

I hate these smart arses...if you don't have advice for the guy don't bother

BTW I'm aware of the irony of the post, I have completed a VTR before but I don't no anything about the appeal...mine rose by only €50 so I was happy.

    Best of luck

It's a simple answer to a simple question.

These are the two things you can use according to Revenue:

Signed dealer/valuer opinions of the price, including VRT and VAT, that a dealer in the Republic of Ireland might have been expected to achieve for the vehicle in an arm's length sale at the time the VRT was charged

Copies of VRT and VAT inclusive advertisements by dealers in the Republic of Ireland for similar vehicles relevant to the time that the VRT was charged.

So either signed dealer opinions or copies of adverts from dealers online

I'm very interested to hear more about this since I'm importing a car from NI myself this week.

OP, was the model listed on the VRT website exactly the same as the model you imported? If so, how can they ask you for double the VRT? That seems crazy.

The exact model of the car I'm importing is quoted on the ROS VRT website, so I've (naturally) been assuming all along that this is VRT quote is exactly what I will have to pay. I can understand there may be a small % difference to the value listed on the website, but doubling the VRT doesn't make any sense.

...in-law in Cork got 'stung' by Revenue for a Galaxy Ghia a while ago - quote on line was €800 -and they promptly asked him for ..... €2200.

Quoted all manner of things, especially the spec: leather, auto etc etc.

Some difference I could tolerate, but a factor of nearly 300% is just pulling the salty water imho

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I'd have thought some Carzone ads of cars with similar specs would be sufficient proof of the value of the car, if their "OM"SP is a tad inflated.

Surely with very at that low figure, the galaxy was more than 4 years old. That being the case, extras shouldn't be adding anything. I do believe that different versions can still add to the valuation when over 4 years old so perhaps that was where they were coming from. If that was the case, it would mean the initial quote wasnt for a ghia model at all.

Yes it was the exact model. The revenue response was that the "amount payable is that payable on the date of enquiry".
So irrespective of the fact it was 2k cheaper a few days earlier it didn't matter.
    Crazy.

What's wrong with the VRT calculator website? It's won't allow me to select 'Transmission Type', so I can't go past page 1.

Then they might not really have your model in their data base, I would call them up on the phone and get them to quote you, after this ask them to give you a Statistical Code, this code is what they use to identify your exact car on their data base, bring this code with you when you bring the car to the NCTS center.
