Ive a garmin forerunner 610 and ive mispaced the ant+ agent dongle, so ive been trying to upload my rides onto Strava and Garmin Connect using the usb cable and it detects the Garmin but it wont detect any new activities. I downloaded the garmin connecter plugin but it still wont find them. Does anyone know how to sort this out or has anyone had the same problem?
    Thanks

I've had a similar (?) problem loading data from an edge 500 via a windows XP laptop.

Sometimes on connecting the garmin, the garmin begins charging via the USB cable - as it is supposed to but the computer doesn't see the garmin itself. Hence no uploads.

I've done three things (a) the tried and trusted unplug and plug back in approach - works about half the time. (b) wait for a while and eventually the laptop finds the device and (c) get one of the kids to ask the laptop to actively search for the device. One of the three above has always sorted things out.

If you can connect to a laptop you should be able to find your garmin as some sort of external device and have a look at the files on it. Don't delete anything!

My data files are under an "activities" folder and are typical named datetime.fit e.g 23.06.2013.09.36.06.fit for a spin on June 23 that started at 09:36. If you can see these files at least it shows that (i) the laptop can communicate with the garmin and (b) that your activities are being recorded on the device.

If you can see the files, I'd suggest re-installing the garmin software.

Are you sure the FR610 is meant to transfer data by USB?

I thought all the Ant+ models used USB for power only.

You could try manually move all of your history files on to the PC, except for the current one you're trying to upload. Once the folder is mostly free on the Garmin, it should pick up the file.

Sometimes its just a build up of data that causes problems.

@NeedMoreGears yeah it comes up as charging but I cant seem to find it as an external device on the laptop, although strava and garmin find it :S

@hardCopy Mabye thats it, Im gonna look that up now

@ror_74 Im not sure how to manually move them if the laptop dosnt recognise it as an external device.

    Thanks.

Ok - power but no data. Might be either the cable or the usb interface on the Garmin in that case. Have you tried a new cable? Thats assuming its not a Ant+ only device.

Edit: Just reading it is only a Ant+ device.

The Garmin Gurus in the Athletics and Running - Gear Forum will probably be able to help you: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055987516

This happened with my Edge 500 too. It was charging but that was it. I tried everything, re-installing drivers, new cables, resetting the unit etc.. nothing worked. Emailed Garmin Support, they gave their suggestions, still no joy. They then gave me a ref. #, said to send it in to them and within a week or two I had a new one back in my hands. The service was prompt and helpful so I think you may need to go down that route.
