It was probably mostly moss by the sounds of it, Dry rake the burnt moss out of the garden then buy some grass seed patch repair and spread it over the affected area and water each night should be green after 1 week and then get stronger

Relax for a fortnight or so. The dead moss looks awful but thats what the weed and feed does. Give the dead moss a raking so as to remove and lightly spread some top dressing with lawn seed after 2 weeks. Really you should have been raking your lawn vigorously to remove the moss before you spread the weed & feed. This time next month your lawn should look good.

Also, be very careful with the application rates and follow the instructions. Putting down too much in on espot can burn the grass up. Not saying that this is what happened, but maybe it did. Certainly I did that in the past.

It's as simple as , poor ground = poor grass, you can spend plenty on moss treatments etc, but these only tackle the symptom and not the cause, in the longterm, you could up wasting money unnecessarily.

add lime to your lawn to reduce the acidity, this also helps to combat moss

Rake the lawn to remove the dead moss, aerate the lawn and brush in some sharp sand to improve drainage.
