Ryanair overweight baggage charge

Anyone know how much Ryanair charge for a overweight bag? Im around 21kg at the minute and wondering is it better to bin some stuff or pay the extra cost.

I don't think having multiple bags entitles a passenger to more than 20kg though.

Ryanair will charge you for ANY additional weight above 15 kgs, they tried to charge me for 1 KG out of TFS, I happily removed a litre bottle of Baileys from my baggage and drank it

I have a 20kg bagged paid for so Im not too bad. I might pick up a suitcase afterwork today that fits their onboard rules and but the backpack into it and pack things around it.

The 3kgs of vodka will not be coming out

Buy it inside the duty free, spanish law dictates that you must be allowed carry a duty free bag onboard the aircraft, so poor MOL cant count this as an additional bag

It only cost €14 for 3L though its 15 for 1L in the duty free.

Um when I flew home the last 2 times there were women with duty free bags who were not allowed on the plane unless they fitted their handbag and dutyfree bag into the hand luggage bag they had.

If the chap is going to go over weight then he should do the extra bag, KGs are €20 each if you go over, so adding the bag at my booking for €50 gets him 15kg - makes sense if he has is over weight,

Would make sense if I was 5-10kgs over with essential stuff I need.

Im around 1 kg (slightly under) so it wouldn´t make sense at all to pay 60quid for that kg and have to try and drag 2 suitcases to the airport.

And as I said I was asking to find out if it was worth paying or dumping some stuff out that I can buy again cheaply at home.

Ah, then you will be fine, I travel extensively with ryanair and have been 1kg over many times without recourse, mainly in Italy and Spain.

They don't check weight as that carefully, at worst it's 20e, at best it's free. I'd just go for it or stick something else in your carry on if you can, swap the heavy things.

They charge so much for baggage. I booked a flight to amsterdam for 165 the other day, and flights with ryanair were only something like 70, however with baggage fees and inconvenience of airport location it was a better deal to book the flight with aer lingus. The price came out the same without a few hour bus journey.

When we were flying from Malta to Sicily, there was only ourselves and 4 other parties checking in. We were having a bit of a laugh with the check in assistant, and my husband joked 'I'd better not stand on that scales or I'll break it'. To which she replied 'but they are all wrong anyway - they always say the weight is more'. We thought she was joking, but she then went and got an electric scales from behind her desk, weighed our carry on bag - 8kg. She then put the same bag on the belt - 11 kg. She said that is why she is always flexible when people have over weight bags, because she knows you cannot always trust the belt.

Bear in mind, she was not Ryanair staff, but whatever operator runs Malta airport. It was something I had always suspected, but never actually seen proven until then. (having said that the ryanair staff at the gate had great craic with a trio of Sicilian guys who were determined to make their carry on fit into the cage, only for it to get stuck there, resulting in two of them holding the cage while the other one tried to pull the bag out, breaking the handle, wheels and zip in the process. They just broke their hearts laughing at them and when they finally got the bag out, the ryanair staff let them go ahead anyway).

I have seen some check in assistants be really pedantic about weights though, even insisting that you put your carry on bags onto the belt to be sure they are within the weight limits.

Bought a small suitcase on my break in a pound shop that I fit the backpack and more pits and pieces into so that should solve the problem.

The overall height is 52cm... 57 including the wheels.. I will use one of their heads to break the wheels off if they give out about it

Not sure about FR, but that's certainly the case on EI short-haul & it's something travellers can get caught out on.

Regardless of the number of bags, anything over the 20kg total allowance will be charged at €9 per kg online or €15 at the airport.

was 1 kg overweight on carry on luggage coming from stansted last year, and they wanted E40... so i just took clothes from bag and put them on over my own clothes....

The bag was 20.00 kgs leaving the house.. 19.9 in the airport minus what was gone from the suncream bottle from the day at the beach


Flight was 15 mins late taking off. Everyone had to pass the drug dog going into the airport.. Bags took half a hour to come out and then as I was leaving when everyone else was gone they called me aside, scanned my bags, brought them in behind a partition and went through every single thing in the bag and took a **** load of information down belong to me..

I had my carry on weighed just before queueing to board in Stansted Airport, came in at just over 11kg but didn't get charged.

A woman infront of me was checking in and she was 2kg over weight, she was with her 2 young kids who had 2 bags too. She was told take stuff out of her bag and put it into the other 2.. She was giving out stink that it would make no difference since both bags were going on the same plane in the same place.
