Gift Certificate in Euros & Kindle

    Hi

    One of my colleagues in work is leaving and I've been asked to buy a gift certificate for her.

    She has a kindle so I have 2 questions

    1. Do I need to buy the gift certificate from amazon.com or .co.uk or does it matter ?

    2. Can I buy the gift certificate in Euros or do I need to use local currency?

    Hmm, this is a bit tricky since you can't swap codes with Amazon as they're region specific.

    *- you MUST use £s if you buy from or use UK/Ireland kindles
    *- you MUST use $s if you buy from or use US/Ireland kindles
    x- you CANNOT use €s for any English language kindles in Ireland,UK or US.

    So you'll need to find our which kindle region your colleague has on theirs.

    A quick way to check, without them suspecting is to grab it off them, or ask politely to use it and make an excuse "I'd like to have a look at it, thinking of buying one" .. or whatever you decide :) - the latter worked for me once.

    Once you have the Kindle, check the kindle store and see which currency is used for the books:

    - for touch Kindles, just touch the basket icon.
    - for older button kindles you press the menu (=) button, then select "Shop in Kindle store"

    Once you know the currency/region you can go to the right place:

    US $ gift vouchers

    UK £ gift vouchers

    T'is a bit of a mess, would love it if they had universal cards but what can you do :rolleyes:
