I would love to know people's opinions, please. I am in central Dublin, but would travel to any decent stockists. Huge selection, even better.
    Thanks in advance

In the city centre it would have to be The Corkscrew on Chatham St. for me. Staff are great and know their wines, not the biggest shop but they have a good selection.

I may be biased  but stick to independent wine shops. You're not likely to get a "huge" selection in them but you will get quality at genuine prices.

    What's a genuine price?

I'm guessing he means they don't do these bogus half price wine sales you see in the supermarkets.

Jus de vine in Portmarnock has a very large selection and good staff.

    Sweeneys in phibsboro.

real; exactly what it appears to be; not artificial
    SYNONYM authentic
Is the painting a genuine Picasso?
Fake designer watches are sold at a fraction of the price of the genuine article.
Only genuine refugees can apply for asylum.

sincere and honest; that can be trusted
He made a genuine attempt to improve conditions.
    genuine concern for others
    a very genuine person

an honest one. Not below cost selling. Not inflated and then "reduced".

Not that I'm making any allegations that anyone would ever do such a thing... Heaven forbid... I'm just saying that, by and large, an independant wine shop will be selling wine at it's true retail value.

Below cost selling is a publican/vitner myth/exaggeration. There were studies done in the UK to try and combat excessive drinking, one was to stop below cost selling as a method of stopping cheap alcohol. But after they studied all the supermarkets it turned out only a handful of oddball non-mass-market drinks were being sold below cost. I expect the same is true here, I have NEVER seen any proof otherwise, and have asked in numerous threads where people did say it was common practice.

The publicans love this claim so they can attempt to defend their prices. Also some of these gobshites are so thick they genuinely do believe below cost selling is rife since they are paying over the odds to distributors.

McHugh's, Malahide rd, Artane is hands down the best in my opinion.
They've won specialist beer off-licence of the year a load of times -and with good reason.
The selection is huge for both wine and beer

Celtic Whiskey Store on Dawson St has a very good selection as well and staff dedicated to the wine side of things.

There's a McHughs on the Kilbarrack Road, Dublin 5 too.
As upforit101 said, they're a fantastic off licence with a great selection of wines and beers.
