Can anyone confirm that this is correct to select 2nd gear on a dexta:
Secondary lever forward into "low" and push gear lever right and back. (Left and back should select reverse gear)

I googled already and found that, that's what I'm basing my question on.

We used to have one of them and from time to time the gear lever would jam up, and you would have to remove the bolts on the levers and align what the ball of the lever sits in underneath. It used to knock in second I think it was, but she was like a flippin Ferrari when she was in the highest gear......It also had about 3 inches of free play in the steering.....:D

Sorry I digress, seems to be right the way you describe.

It's not for me - a friend was stuck and the mrs. has one at home but she can't remember the last time it was ran!

Are they not marked on the tranny of the tractor adjacent to the levers? Or is there so much muck/rust you cant see.:D.Its a while since I drove one of them, I dont recall. No synchro of course. That website sounds its the correct positions anyway.

if she is outside, the cylinders could be full of rain water unless there is a cover over the exhaust, or the top has a flap, or the end is turned down.

maybe you might throw up an oul pic if you have the chance/can.

You can buy a new gear lever which should cure the sticking in gear problem as the ball on the end of the lever wears and pulls out of the selector mechanism.

Alternatively, build it up with weld and file back to shape.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm nowhere near (about 30/40 miles) the tractor, a friend with no internet access was asking and I was trying to help him out!

I'll try get a pic of the mrs's one, keep forgetting the camera when I go out to the homeplace.

We've done both, and it will still stick in gear. The selectors spread and wear which allows the bottom of the gear handle slip between them. It mainly happens when going from Reverse to 2nd, or vice versa (see positions in diagram above).
