Might be a matter of getting the new BT module coded to your car?
Usually this kind of issue arise from using parts from donor cars where the VIN number of those parts are not the same. Newer cars need to get those parts coded so it is 100% integrated as if it came from factory with it.

    My 2 cents

As far as I can remember there is some setting on the phone to allow the sync ?

Unpair it and then when you re pair there is a "dont ask again" box you need to tick. It comes up very quickly from what i remember.

can I ask how much you paid btw ? I am going to be selling mine this week and was wondering what the going rate is ?

Got it on e-bay for 180 euro including postage , works perfect just the contacts issue which is annoying . Any more info on what phone settings is causing the problem would be much appreciated if you have it ??
    Thanks

No, the VIN has nothing to do with it, you can use it in any Merc with the right interface. It's a part that can be ordered with the car or as an after-market accessory, doesn't make any difference.

The OP might just need to give it time to upload the contacts.

Done the unpair and repair thing a couple of times and also ticked that box still no joy .

Check if your contact list is on the phone or the sim. I think it has to be on 1 or the other to sync...

Depends on the accessory, as I said it might need coding to be properly registered with the car. Many parts do get vin matched once they are coded. Many parts, especially BT modules, navigation systems etc in Merc, BMW, Audi etc will not work properly until fully registered with the car.
OP issue might be different altogether, it might not be compatible with his phone.

I have that MB puck, it was bought after the event and it syncs the contacts no problem. The OP has a Samsung Galaxy S3, I have a Samsung S3 mini so it's more or less the same phone.

If the bluetooth unit needed to be registered with the car, MB would charge at least an hour's labour to do it. Instead I was handed the part by the salesman, I installed it myself, paired it with my phone and it works with no issues, including automatically syncing the contacts from the phone which I can bring up and scroll through, both on the radio display and the centre of the speedo.

I know nothing about Mercs, but I do remember a mate having a similar problem and using a button on the puck to sync ended up solving the problem.

Nearly sure the problem is your unit you are using is an old model. You need to use something like this

    http://www.viseeostore.com/products/mercedes-benz/viseeo-mb-4.html

If you want you can install mine in your car to test if it works before you spend any more getting it working. Are you in Dublin.

That was probably a Viseeo puck, an OEM solution which has a sync button, there is no equivalent on the MB puck.

Your puck is two generations old, it may not support modern phones.

    According to this site ..

    http://www.commandonline.co.uk/Mercedes_Bluetooth_HFP.html

    Mercedes part number: B6 788 0000 which replaced B6 787 6168 which in turn replaced part B6 787 5877
