Temporary loss of Saorview signal

My sister has a Saorview box and every now and then (once a week or so) she would loose the signal for up to an hour or so. This always happens when the neighbour cuts his grass so she's convinced its the mower thats causing the problem.

Is this possible and if so is there a "fix" for it or is she just plain mad :)

If her aerial is delivering a poor signal to begin with & can't compete with the interference, maybe it could be improved. Perhaps re-sited to screen it from the interference and/or, better screened cables & other components used.

If you suspect the mower is causing more interference than would be typical, maybe lend the neighbour a different one & see what happens.

I dont think thats a runner as they in the country and the neighbour has over a quarter acre of grass to cut ;)

Not sure where the saorview signal is coming from but what I forgot to say was that she also looses her freeview channels. No problem with freeview signal strength there as she is about 3 - 4 miles from the transmitter in Strabane and has a clear unobstructed view of it.

Yes, signal dropping out when nearby interference occurs is generally a weak signal problem. Ideally a new roof mounted high gain aerial pointed at the best mast for your location with good quality double screened cable should help.

It is clearly the mower causing interference. Causing interference is illegal, ask the neighbour to get his lawnmower suppressed. If this doesn't work you can seek help from the relevant authorities, BBC in NI, Comreg in the republic.

It would be 100 times more effective to at least have the best aerial setup possible first, as any system right on the "digital cliff" will be unrealistically sensitive to any interferenece, even from legimiate systems such as mobile masts, mobile phones, taxi radios etc.

I assume she has a good aerial setup as she is receiving both Soarview and Freeview and nowhere has it been stated she does not have a good aerial setup.

As I said causing interference is illegal and with a quarter acre to cut it is almost certainly an unsurpressed petrol mower. Easily fixed with an interference suppressed spark plug (with Champion the correct type has an "X" added in front of the type number, e.g. L10 becomes XL10), or an interference suppressor plug cap (not quite so effective).
