So the paint has flaked a good bit from a small leak above.

I went to repaint the ceiling tonight and the paint started to come away.

Of course i'm getting the house photographed tomorrow to sell it, so obviously it couldn't have happened at a better time!!

What can i do to fix this?

Don't worry on that score paddy - they will be!!

Just worried now that viewings will start in a week or so. Could i paint some sort of primer on the affected place and then paint as normal?

Use a filling knife to scrape back loose paint till you have a solid edge. Should be good to coat then, just dont overdo the rolling around that area as more may flake off.
If the edge is very noticable, fill it with a fine filler like Onetime. Other areas may blister under the wet paint, leave these as they will dry out.
