GPU and PSU problem

I forgot to say I disconnected all the dvd drives and unused harddrives to see if that made a difference.
I also made sure I have the latest drivers.
When playing HL2 it crashes after about a couple of seconds in the menu.
I can play Bioshock fine with no problems.

It may well be the source of your problems, its really more like a 400W unit as it is only listed for 30Amps on the 12V rail, and that is presuming it is actually capable of sustaning that over longer periods.

Although it survived Jonnygurus review of the 700W version would not inspire great confidence in the quality of these units.

Depending on your system I'd say it could be pulling at least 300W and maybe as much as 350W+ from the wall under heavy load as per this review.

Accounting for PSU inefficencies, (Which is a poor mid 70s % for the 700W in the review above) that sort of load should be fine for the 12V rail of a top quality 400W unit. However for something like that XION, I suspect that after some time of running at ~70%+ load on a regular basis (like a month) cracks may start to appear.

I'd get a new PSU for sure, even if it is not the cause of the problem (and its quite likely that it is), some day it will be running something like a GTX 8800.

    Thanks mate.
I'll look into getting a new psu.
Do you think the card could have been damaged from not having enough juice?

I doubt it, but that's nothing more than an educated guess from me.
