I am building a new pc for gaming and a little video editing, but mostly gaming.

    1. What is your budget? [€1300]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming/Video editing. Mostly Battlefield 3/4 )

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [Yes]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [no)

    5. Do you need a monitor? [No]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Mouse]

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [Yes....but not immediately}

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Laser]

    9. When are you purchasing? [In 15/30]

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [Kilkenny city]

If anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated!

Well under budget. I don't think Haswell is worth the extra costs unless you really want the latest gen. You would be better off putting that money into other components I think. Maybe a good soundcard like this. Some good headphones if you need them or a nice mechanical keyboard.

I was looking at getting a gtx 680 and an i7 2600k...any impressions on these?

680's are overpriced. That 7950 overclocked would perform on par with a 680 for a lot less.

A 2600k is a 2 gen old sandy bridge, with hyper threading. HT isn't being used in games at the moment but may do in the future. Sandy's also limit your pcie lanes to pcie 2.0. The pcie 3.0 controller is on ivys and haswells.

Again it doesn't make a difference for current gen cards but may do in the near future.

I can get a gtx 680 4gb for 100 cheaper than the 7950 and its brand new! i know 4gbs is over kill but for the price i cant complain! it seems to run in benchmarks ive seen online better than the 7950 would!

Id imagine also that the 2600k overclocked would be pretty good for a year or 2?

Erm. A 7950 will set you back about 280 quid. A 4gig 680? At least 350, more like 400, though. Where are you getting this?

Benches you see possibly use ****tier, older AMD drivers, the newer ones are better. And also, don't forget, the overclock headroom of the 7950 is very high.

A 2600k OCed is great, but it's 2 gens old at this stage, no reason to buy it new. And not worth it for gamin either.

    For a 4GB 680? Wow, that's a bargain, no doubt about that.

I edited my post if you didn't see. A 2600k is very good OCed, but not worth buying new.

would a 2600k run battlefield 4 with the 680 at max settings? Or could you recommend a better newer cpu?

You need to expand on that first. Are you getting it second hand, etc.? I already gave you my thoughts on the 2600k. It's not worth buying new. Hyperthreading is not used in games (Crysis it's used a bit, but that's about it really) AND it's older tech, 2 gens old.

No way, that's another generation older again :). TBH, at 1300 quid you'd be looking at a better CPU than a 2600k. Having said that, a 2600k for a 100 euro is good value. So it's up to you. Overclocked, the 2600k is very competitive in the gaming space and will be for several years more (graphics card is what counts mostly in gaming).

do you think i am good for gaming with the 680 or would i be better off with something else. i pretty much have my 1300 intact after the gpu and cpu purchase . any idea about what would compliment a system running these!?

You have that much available AFTER those purchases? They're the most expensive parts of the build man, to be honest. Here's my opinion. On a budget of ~1500, you can get better than a 680/2600k system (and components will be new), BUT the thing is, a 2600k and 680 are still quite powerful and you're getting a good deal on them.

What I'd do is get the card, processor and motherboard if possible from your cousin second hand. Invest into a nice case/cooling/monitor etc. Grab 8gigs if RAM. Then when you want in a year or so you can update the CPU/GPU/mobo. This way you'll always have a good system and you'll save quite a bit of cash.

Dude it would help if you gave this information first. In that case the 2600k and 680 are clearly the choice to go for at that price. Total bargains.

They would have more than enough power to run current games. If you want higher frame rates for your 120hz monitor you could get a second 680gtx for sli.

    CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

Memory: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 Low Profile 4x 4GB modules

    SSD: Crucial m4 256 GB

My apologies for noobing up the thread, what would you think will be a sufficient PSU for this system? 750W, 850W, 1000W?

Also i haven't included a HDD as i am not too fond of them and might just get a Bigger SSD!
