NCT Emissions problem....

    Hi Guys,

Can't seem to get my car through the NCT on emissions (99 BMW 318is)

    Original NCT Test Results were,

    Low Idle:
    CO .63vol% (Above .50% is a fail)
    HC 214ppm

    High Idle:
    Lambda .98 (Not between .97 and 1.03 = fail)
    CO .64vol% (Above .30% is a fail)
    HC 86ppm (Above 200 is a fail)

So fitted new cat and lambda, (Got someone to check emissions during lunch in a garage ;) )

So results are idle with New Cat and Lambda,
    C02 13.39
HC E08 (Presume that was an error on the machine?)
    02 1.52
    C0 1.067
    C0cor 1.11
    Lambda 1.014

Still high so then changed air-flow meter and re-checked again,

    C02 9.97
    HC 437
    02 7.04
    C0 .461
    C0cor .66
    Lambda 1.409

Don't 100% understand how to read the results, So how close or far away am I from getting the emissions to NCT level? :)

As far as I can see, you only failed on the CO being a little high. That could be as simple as old/worn spark plugs. What was the justification for fitting all those new parts?

Was the car fully serviced before going in for the test?

Was it fully warmed up before going in?

The cat in it was definitely gone (Their was nothing in it!), So replaced that and put on a lambda at the same time. Had a good Airflow meter laying around so put that in to see would it make a difference and it has.

Was serviced about 1500 miles ago, and car was fully warm going in.
