Makes sense, as noted it could be a die-shrink to 32nm, revised internals and lower power consumption, revised heatsink and/or quieter etc.

Basically this is cost cutting by Sony, which makes alot of sense....even saving 1 cent per unit could amount to millions saved!, i doubt we'll see a price cut. This move is about Sony saving itself money, not us.

two new models. I didn't like the DVD/BluRay loader on the super slim.
they have to give a price cut at some point.

To save 1 million they would need to sell 100 million units?

I find it stupid. Unfortunately Sony is doing same as Microsoft with New slim 360.

We don't care there is slimmer, newer, shinier version.
Those who have already ps3 will look for ps4.
Those who have 360 Will look for ps3 cheaply, so they can catch up exclusives they missed.
Those who are looking to buy first console will buy ps4/xbox one, not ps3/360.

They need a price cut on ps3/360, not same hardware in New skin for same price. Specially when market will be overloaded with second hand ps3/360 when new gen hits.

Is this not just Sony copying Microsoft who are releasing a newer version of the 360 modelled on the XBOne?

By that logic you could also say MS were copying Sony who have already released two slimmer consoles.

They're not copying - parts get cheaper and smaller over time. Makes perfect sense to use cheaper parts.

More info, the GPU goes to 28nm and the CPU to 22nm.....big savings for Sony!....should produce less heat, less power consumption, quieter fan + even less YLOD.
