2006 Audi A3 tdi lowered, want to change back to highered

    I bought a 1.9tdi Audi A3 - 3 door this month. Car is mint except what I didn't realise that the car was lowered by the original owner. This to me is a nuisance, crawling over bumps, i find it takes from the drive of the car, and having people in the back seat is a nightmare on the suspension.

    I want to buy/swap my coils and suspension for the original ones, anyone have any advice on doing this or where I could get them, ideally I would prefer second hand once they were mechanically sound. any ideas?
    Advice would also be welcome on the way to go about making sure I restore it to the original height completely.
    Also at the moment I have low profile tyres - also hate them, but can't put high profile until I lift the car. They are 17". I have BCT or BCP (not sure) tyres they are, they are terribly loud, my car sounds like a jet landing with the noise from the tyres. Any recommendations on this?

    If I get some - i will be selling mine for anyone interested.

    Find out exactly how the car was lowered first. It's probably just shorter springs/dampers in which case you just need to purchase OE spec of both and fit them. Any motor factors will have the parts. Buying second-hand on wear items like these is not a good idea. It would be worth having a mechanic look over the suspension control arms at this point too to check for excessive wear due to the lowering.

    Regarding the wheels/tyres, chances are the tyres fitted now are the correct ones to keep the rolling radius correct for the car. It's likely that the car originally came with 15" or 16" wheels which would have had higher profile tyres fitted. Again you need to determine what the original fitment was and find a set of wheels in this size if you want to get rid of the low profile tyres you have. A quick search suggests the original wheel size for this car is 6.5Jx16 with 205/55/R16 tyres. I can't find data on the offset for this wheel though.

    basically they are the lower ones, so the OE spec is prob the ones. You are right about buying new - i was considering looking at a car dismantlers to buy, but the difference between new and second hand is less than 100 euro.
    The alloys I have came with the car they are the original 17" alloys - so I won't be changing the alloy cause I really like them. Are low profile tyres more expensive than high profile?

    If I was to sell the new coils, do you know where I could? get some money back on them? Cause no doubt someone would like to lower their audi to give it the sportier look

    To sell the coils, I'd look at specialist Audi/VW forums - www.vagdrivers.net and www.autostadt.ie are two Irish forums you could look at.

    As for the tyres, the ones that are one it may well be the correct size for your car. Quite often, the price variation has less to do with the profile height than how popular that particular size is - commonly used sizes will be cheaper on average.

    Wait and see how changing the suspension back to stock goes before worrying about the tyres. Lowered and stiffened suspension is going to make the tyres seem much noisier and harsher than they should be. Also, cheap tyres can be much worse than premium brands (as well as being much more dangerous).
