Skoda Fabia Won't Start

I'm having an issue with the above car.

Yesterday, out of the blue, the car wouldn't start. Turned the key and the car tried to turn over but just died after a second or two. I firstly guessed it may be the battery, so had a friend jump the car and it started straight away without any issues.

Drove about 6-7 miles home, turned the engine off and then tried to turn it back on immediately and it didn't start. In fact, the car sounded more dead!?

I connected a battery charger for a few hours today to see if that might help but no luck.

When I try to start the car and it fails to start, I've noticed the battery light and EPC light stay illuminated. Does this indicate a fault with the battery? Or do they just stay lit because the car didn't start?

I'm not sure if this is related but since the car has failed to start, the back doors no longer open when I open the car. It sounds as if they try to open but just don't have power? The radio and lights work fine though.

Any ideas on what the issue could be?

I would agree with Kenny new battery should be between €60-80 and get you back up and running
Also I'm going to presume its a mk1 petrol fabia is it?

I was guessing that was the news coming. I thought ye Boards folk could come up with an ingenious way to coax it back to life. 60-80 euro isn't too bad, car has been rock solid.

Ye, TGI666 it is a petrol Fabia. As far as I know, the battery hasn't been replaced since buying the car. My parents bought it new in 03. Looking at the battery, looks like an easy job to replace myself?

    Maybe check the battery connections?

As you said you took out the battery to charge it so just a new battery instead of the old one :D
