    Hi.

I have a little job coming up that the OH is on about a few years now, painting the stairs.
Its red deal and I want to paint it white.
Whats the easiest, quickest or even best way?

    Thanks.

    JeJu.

I would imagine that you would have to sand the stairs down before any painting.

Are you going to use satinwood or gloss? If its gloss you will need an undercoat.

    1- A good sanding.
    2- A coat of primer.
    3- A coat of undercoat.
4- A coat of Satin wood.
    5- A light sanding.
6- A final coat of slightly thinned Satin wood.

If you have carpet on the stairs use masking tape down the sides and cover with sheets.
    Best of luck

Have a look at the Annie Sloane range of paints. They are supposed to adhere to any surface without sanding etc, I am not sure if they are up to heavy duty areas but you could give one of their shops a call and check it out.

    Their colours are fab

    Thanks all.
I have carpet and some very awkward parts.
Might go as far as dismantling the stairs .

Get zinnser bin, expensive but worth the money for this job.Does not need sanding with this stuff but make sure there are no lose or flaky bits.
Give it 1 full coat with the Bin then 2 coats of satinwood or 1 undercoat and one gloss.

I agree with this route, it will be the quickest way. Between your 2 coats of satinwood/eggshell give the timer a very light rub of very light/well worn fine sandpaper. The finer the sandpaper the better.
