Hi there irish OTs who are working/ have worked in oz!
As I gather, the first step in working down under as an OT is registering with the OT council. This costs 2200 dollars and that's a national registration. Ouch!do employers ever help out with the payment of the fee that covers practice audit?
Then even with all that do you still register with the territory you want to work with,if they require registration? does anyone have an idea of that cost?

Is there work out there? I'm thinking of going to Perth first. I have over four yrs experience in different areas. acute, peads and mental health. Prob most interested in locum work initally, so acute work will be way Il go. Any tips on registering, work wise greatly appreciated!

Hi great thread so far. Seems like it has become so much harder to get registered to work as an o.t. In oz. Like previously said, I gave up on the idea. It costs so much and as I will be heading on a working Hol visa I figured I would cut my losses and look for a similar clinical type role instead. However I have recently been told you can apply for registration in New Zealand and transfer this to Australia (excluding WA). Has anyone tried this?

Advice so welcome, it's just too much for an investment of time and money before you go to oz, only to find out when you get there you can't work as an O.T. When you get there!
    Thanks guys 😀

Hi jett, Alls I know is that your registration for Australia is through what is officially called 'The council of OT of Australia and NZ''
it would suggest it's all done through the same org and so is transferable, but the cost is probably the same for both countries. I have found the council very prompt in replying to emails in the past if you want to clarify. OTS are much better paid in oz than nz also so if you were going to invest, oz may be a better option
