    My sentiments exactly.

What exactly is the point of this test; surely you dont need to mash two cars together to know that the 1959 model is going to come off much the worse than its 2009 counterpart

I always found the Bel Air disgusting. Good thing they destroyed it.

+1, yea pointless test is pointless. For a start the old car is gonna have rust throughout the chassis. Spot the brown cloud on impact. Other tests have shown cars that initially passed such crash tests failed a few years on when the hidden tinworm had had it's evil way. Strip the interior from a ten year old car and look at the welds and often this face results

The scary part for me about crash tests are the relatively low speeds involved. 50Kph kinda thing. Even if your car has an gazillion star rating, it's no reason for complacence. Run the same test only at 100-120Kph and see what happens.

For those kinda speeds you'd need a full welded in rollcage, five point harnesses and crash helmets and even then... Still run the above test only swap out the Bel air for a fully prepped rally car and game over for the Malibu.

Useless factoid. The only car on record that survived the European crash tests in a "yea we'll drive that home lads" state was the McLaren F1. Busted headlights and buckled bumper was about the extent of it.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

It's a helluva lot better, more fluid design than the jelly mould high waisted just like so many other cars yoke they crashed it into.
