    Hi,

I hope my title fits the nature of the post. I have a hypothetical question for all who bother answering.

Would anybody work a sales job selling cloud based advertisement software to suitable venue's around Dublin (restaurant, clubs, pubs, theatres) on commission for there first 50 sales (they would make €50 persale).

After the first 50 the employee is on €1800 after tax per month. Is this reasonable and in your opinion is this a good opportunity?

    Thanks
    David

I'm assuming if you do not make 50 sales, you get nothing?

Yes, there is no base salary. If you make no sales then no cash.

Then I would say not worth it. These places usually pay by the month, and I would not like my bills and rent to depend on other people's willingness to buy a product door-to-door. Most people don't even answer the door nowadays. I know I don't! Plus, when you have exhausted your target area you are up shizz creek. And you can be pretty sure that even if you meet your 50 target sales, if you don't make many more than that they will be quick to let you go.

It wouldn't be door to door, there would be cold calling but it would be to other business, hypothetically if it was 25 sales then a base salary, then after 100 sales that base salary got doubled plus commision on all sales I think that would be a pretty stellar opportunity.

I'm probably biased, but unless you are guaranteed a wage, I don't think it's worth it at all. But then it all depends on your financial committments. I couldn't pay for a wedding, house and my bills on a maybe wage. It would probably be more suited to someone who is unemployed but not entitled to JSA/JSB or a young adult who still lives at home with no financial commitments.

Just my 2c (and you can have that without making 50 sales ;) )

Working for free... that really isn't a stellar opportunity.

I actually have no problem with commission based jobs, but let's be honest, they aren't good jobs.

How much commission would you earn per sale? Before hitting the 25 when you start getting a wage?

If I were 18 or 19 and living with my mum I'm sure it would be great to get 1800 every other month. Hell, 1800 every three months would be great! But if I were relying on that now I would be living with my mother in no time!

OP have you done work like this before? Do you actually realise the amount of out-of-work hours you will probably have to put into making this quota?

The fact that he said I think that would be a pretty stellar opportunity makes me believe the OP is the employer.

You can't know what the after tax income is for the employee, that depends on their personal circumstances. 50 sales a month is nearly 3 a day based on 20 days a month average 5 day week. I assume you provide a company car etc? Or travelling expenses? No? That then has to come out of the 1800 - hardly a "stellar" opportunity. You do realise anyone any good at sales will quickly work out they can make more money elsewhere - after all that's the first thing sales people are thinking if they are any good.

Why not go into business with a couple of really good sales guys where you all stand to gain big if it comes off? Good luck telling the good ones from the bad ones though - I never could work that one out beforehand.

are you saying that after I have made 50 sales at €50, which is €2,500 per month my salary after tax becomes €1,800 (loss of €700) but if I only make 49 sales at €50 my salary is €2,450 ?

I'm not sure what the law in Ireland says but in the UK, unless it's work on a self employed basis, you're entitled to the minimum wage even if it's a commission based job.
If they don't guarantee your earnings won't go below the minimum wage then I'd avoid them and report them to revenue and The National Employment Rights Authority.
The BBC did a good documentary about this stuff

If he only makes 49 sales he gets no money at all.
