We are currently on the look out for a new used car. We don't currently have a family but it is on the cards over the next year or two so thinking a family car would be best. Hoping this at will last a long time.
So far we are thinking of the following:
Mazda 6, Toyota avensis, Toyota corolla, ford mondeo, Citroen c5 you get the drift. Must be low mileage and hoping for 2008/2009 for a budget of €10k.
Found this which seems good if the price is slightly high. What do you think?

We know very little of what to look for when buying a car so ye likelihood is we will be buying from a dealer with a warranty.
    Any help, advice appreciated.thanks.

Tax is very high on those. New model has less emissions is better on fuel and more powerful.

Even a 1.6 engine? That would be the highest we would be looking for.

Also worth saying that you could buy these new in 09 for €18500

Engine size means nothing when you're taxed on emissions so rethink that part of it.

Motortax.ie gives you tax rates based on reg number

Thank you I didn't realise that. Unfortunately we cannot afford a new car which is about €25k. Any other suggestions welcome.

My point was if you could buy them new for 18500, 11950 3 years later is a tad steep.

There are loads of great cars you can get for your budget. That Toyota isn't desirable so id say keep looking.

The avensis changed model in 09, the 1.6 on them is low tax and a decent car
