    Hi all,

Just a quick one. Recently built a bbq out the back, but in my attempt to keep costs down I got a cheap cream brick. Problem is I used grey mortar on the joints, and now I have filthy bricks! Anyone know the best way to clean it off or should i just try and paint over it?

I've been meaning to do this on my own garden wall.

    You have a few options...

    1) You can try to chisel off the spatters if they are still "powdery" enough, but risk damaging the brick.
    2) Better yet, use an acid wash, in a 10 part water to 1 part acid solution. But careful not to use too much or you risk staining the brick.
    3) Leave it to weather away.

2 is probably best option, but most risky.

Brick acid is your best bet. Local hardware should have some for under €10 for 1 litre size. As mrcheez has said, dilute is well and make sure you wash it down too. Careful of the fume from it and wear gloves too!

A small angle grinder, cordless drill or mains powered drill and a wire brush attachment.

    Oh and a steady hand.

Dead easy for removing mortar blobs/splatters off of brick.

    Simples.
