Couldn't see a thread for this, saw it earlier and really enjoyed it, they obviously realised the Minions are the best thing about the series so they get way more screentime, but not at the expense of Gru or the three girls even though Agnes still gets all the best lines between them. I had to see it in 3D as it was the only way it was being shown but it works so, so much better in animated films, and it's utilised really well (especially in the end credit sequence). The kids in the audience I saw it with loved it, and the adults were chuckling away for the most of the movie, its not belly laugh funny but its got some good moments, and the minions steal the show again.

I saw it this morning and I thought it was excellent. The minions are an inspired creation, and - as you say - have much more screentime in this, compared to the first film. I thought it was pretty much pitch perfect, in terms of catering for all ages. While it doesn't have the same, knowing, postmodern winks to the mums and dads (well, not as many as other films cut from the same cloth), there were many laugh out loud moments at the screening I was at, and they weren't from kids. Anyone who liked the first one shouldn't be disappointed.

The Minions are getting their own movie too next year as a spinoff, although Gru is in it too but they're the focus, I hope they don't try to give them an origin story or something it's funnier not knowing exactly what they are. Some of the gibberish they come out with is hilarious the two guys who the voices must have a blast doing it.

Yeah: I love the fact that it's sometimes half-decipherable, and other times, it's total gobbledegook.
The giant soft toys of the minions are probably not as fluffy as Agnes' unicorn, though...

The "It's so fluffy I'm gonna die" squeel is regularly heard in our house.

Planning on bringing the kids to this next weekend. For those that enjoyed the first movie there are 3 shorts that have been released focused mainly on the minions, well worth checking out.

Saw it it the weekend with the kids.

The Minions were funny, Gru and the girls were fine, but all the new characters were rubbish.

El Macho's fake death story was funny though

The minions are the best thing about the series, Gru isn't that interesting a character tbh, their interactions with each other are brilliant though, they seem to have no regard for each other's safety :pac:

Saw today with a friend and I thought it was quite disappointing; the first was kinda fun, with soft cynical edges that kept the humour sharp among all the slapstick. The sequel felt like an overreaction to the popularity of the minions: there were far more scenes with them this time around and while clearly I'm not anywhere near the demographic that loves them so much, I could have done without their endless prattling.

I saw it today and enjoyed it a lot; like the first one, it dips slightly in the third act when it shifts towards resolving the plot, but it's still lots of fun and has plenty of laughs along the way. I thought the Minions were well used in it; I enjoy the gags with them and think they're probably the best thing about the films.

Also, as trailers go, I really like this one:

I saw this last weekend with my younger cousins! I was pretty much using them as an excuse to go see it!

Such a funny film! I'm certain I enjoyed it more than them :D Reminded me to go buy the first one as it seemed to be missing from my DVD collection. A grave oversight on my part :D

Gonna go see this again I think

Saw this yesterday and the kids absolutely loved it. Quite enjoyed it myself, cracked up at far more bits than I normally would in a kids film
the minions covering "I Swear" was a definite high-light!

Not in the film I saw, that is normally done by Disney and Pixar I think.

went to see this during the week.

t'was alright but no great shakes.

dont remember any great laugh but enjoyable enough all the same. the minions get a lot more time which is welcome and it was fun to see gru deal with daddy issues but its not a patch on the first.

i give it a not as bad as it sounds 5/10.

makes me glad i went to see "this is the end" instead when it was a toss up between this and that last week.

Without the minions, it would have been very short on laughs.

Yup. Anytime they were on screen was a delight, any time they weren't.. not so much.

My favourite bit in the movie was when Steve Coogan's character introduced himself as "Mister Ramsbottom"

And one of the minions giggled and just said "bottom"

I cracked up for a good five minutes. It was just the delivery of it. Absolutely perfect. It still makes me laugh thinking about it now.

    Bottom.

That was great, their complete lack of regard for each other's safety cracks me up, like when one is being sucked up into the beam of light and the other just lets him go and gives him a cheerful wave goodbye lol
