Completed H.Dip in 2005

Righto - where do I start?

Complete BA Fine Art in 2004, received a 1:1 and then went on to complete H.Dip in Art & Design Education, graduating in 2005 with honours. Between 2005 and present, I have worked in busy managerial roles in third level education and did a very small amount of teaching (2 months subbing, some voluntary evening classes teaching young children, and developing an arts programme for third level students where I work). I also, of course, completed teaching modules while completing my H.Dip

In 2010, I went back to college part time to complete my MA, graduating last November with a 1:1.

Now, I'm moving to the UK and I have no idea where to start with regards to securing a teaching position or even if any school will be interested in me.

At present, all I know / have done is the following:
    - I have to get a CRB check (Will be on the phone to them tomorrow)
    - I have to get QTS
    - I have registered and sent my CV to a number of teaching agencies

Can someone tell me the following please:
    - Am I allowed to apply for positions advertised on TES etc or do I have to wait until the CRB & QTS is approved / granted? (Can I apply and inform the school I'm in the process of completing said documentation)
    - Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes for the CRB & QTS to be completed?

Also, I've heard a rumour over the years that if you don't use your H.Dip within three years, it becomes null and void. This seems crazy, considering the lack of teaching jobs in Ireland and I'm sure there are many others like me who couldn't secure employment after college and took up other employment options.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you have had a similar experience, do share!!:)
