Should I leave my job to study?

I'd just like some feedback as I'm really at a crossroads! My partner is starting college full time in September. I work 3 days per week and we have an 18month old who my partner minds while I'm at work. I am about to repeat my leaving cert over 2years at home as going back to school isn't really an option. I am hoping to eventually study veterinary medicine.
I am considering leaving my job as if I move my hours to evening/weekend work, we're not going to have anytime together which I don't think would be practical. Also it would give me a brilliant opportunity to get on top of my studying and make a go of my education this time around. It would also mean that I wouldn't have to pay a fortune for childcare
Only downside is the huge drop in income - swapping my wages for the dole would be a big cut. My heart is saying leave work, study, and provide a great life for us in the long term, but the thoughts of scraping by even more than we are now for the next few years and through college is just weighing me down! If anyone has any thoughts or experience I would really appreciate any advice!

If you just quit work, then you won't be eligible for the dole for 9 weeks.

As above, you will not be entitled to any dole for 9 weeks if you leave work - so definitely not a practical option.

Is it really that long? So basically my only other option is school which would entitle me to back to education allowance and then leave me with paying for a crèche.
As I'm doing subjects that have practical elements and workbooks to be signed off by a teacher, I'd have to attend a school fairly regularly anyway so I guess I could try and work out if I'd manage to go full time.
So frustrating cos I know I can do the work it's just figuring out where and how.

Is the Affordable Childcare scheme still running?
The Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme might be another option if your child is over 3 and under 4!

VTOS would be perfect. You get BTEA and you can also get CETS, which is subsidised childcare.

Edit to add you need to be on a SW payment for 6 months prior to VTOS. 3 months for BTEA.
