    Hi.

I'm working on that brilliant set for couple of weeks now. I finished the box today. It's not perfect but looks ok. Previous owner striped the box and put it together wrong. Everything should fit in the box.

And small bonus from previous owner ;)

That's a great restoration of one very impressive seven day set.

I like the idea of the 7 blades and one set of scales and tail for them all.

    Thanks.
It's not finished yet. Now i'll work on the blades and i'll make new set of scales. But the hardest part was refurbishing that box. The rest is easy peasy :)

The blades just look like the need a quick polish and to be honed.

What size are the blades? They look about 7/8ths and quite heavy.

Originally they were 6/8, two of them still are. The rest is between 5/8 and 10/16. "Friday" has been honed out the most.

    Lovely.

The '+XY+' markings on the blades, just a brand name, or do they serve a purpose? They all seem to be the same.

They would be the makers mark of that particular cutler.

    The writing on the inside of the lid reads;
None are Genuine unless marked +XY+ This mark is protected by the Act of Parliament incorporating the Cutlers Company of Sheffield and to imitate it is a Felony.

Great looking 7 day set, the interchangeable blades are something I've not seen before.

I've always liked the 7 day sets ever since I spotted TI doing them some years back.

    Great looking 7 day set..

Shaving blindness.. I revisited the thread to view your post.. and only now noticed the naked lady on the box.

I like the idea that someone, at some point, thought, what this antique box needs, is a naked bird with her dress draped over her shoulder, holding a white walking cane.

Then took care and attention to make his dream come through.

    That's correct.
I couldn't find any information about Robert Elliot. But i found that +XY+ mark was used by Sheffield Steel Products LTD. as well. I found pictures of their table knives.

I didn't know what to think when i found that picture of naked woman. But i think that it is a part of history and it will stay on that box :)
