Thinking of buying one of these for €9k. Seems kept well and in good order and everything works. Any known probs?

display on the dash gives probs, front diff and propshafts coupling give a bit of trouble, fairly hard on diesel, check front suspension ball joints for wear, air suspension not as troublesome as previous model but make sure it rises instantly that it starts. lot of flash for very little cash. one with full history would be my choice, lots out there so take your time and find the nicest spec one you can

    this looks nice

worth looking in the UK imho, some good bargains to be had, much better choice and more likely to have been looked after and serviced properly compared to an Irish motor. you might not save much after the cost of the trip there and back and the vrt, nct etc. but still worth it imho.

The auto boxes gave trouble as well, same unit as fitted to the X5.

I've never before seen an RR with the rear facing seats mod; imagine you'd want to be confident that it was done properly and the licence cert updated for the higher carrying capacity. That's a fairly old diesel lump too iirc; not the same as the TDV6 used in Disco 3 or RRS. Fullfatrr.com is a decent enthusiasts site if you want to look for more regular drivers.

Not worth going to uk prices too similar to irl b4 vrt there are plenty out there that will have good service histories

Op....I trust you have a slush fund put away for expenses. RR's of this vintage can be notoriously troublesome. Many were bought in the boom when owners could afford to service the debt but not the machine. Gearboxes post 100k have a nasty habit of calving, likewise aircompressor and bags are well past their respective sell by dates. Neighbor of mine has a 06 laid up with a 5k bill to repair same as per previous.

I'd only sheepishly look at a range rover of this vintage if I had proof of servicing and actual work done.

Caveat emptor as these brutes can be utter money pits. Best of luck though.

Other than the boxes they robust, The air compressors let go but generally will have been changed at this stage if not its not a major job to change. The airbags on the suspension don't give much trouble. engines are pretty strong. Its the bmw straight 6 diesel same as 5 series x5 etc. Fuel consumption is hard to swallow mixed driving 25- 27mpg

    Nice looking car.
Down through the years Vogue was the highest spec, more recently Vogue Autobiography.
I cannot recall a rearwards looking seat in the boot area on 04 models. It may have been a car originally purchased in the UK with a larger options list.
Beware of sellers unwittingly promoting a Vogue when in fact it is HSE spec.:)
Range Rovers are fine cars, however buying any second hand prestige motor I guess one should budget for the inevitable costly repair at some stage. A full service history from a main dealer would be preferable.
The price of these cars should be falling as people try to offload large fuel burners , should mean there are plenty to choose from.
The comfort level, driving position and visibility when driving this car are second to none.
    Enjoy!:)

Perhaps, though Behan's may not be the original supplier.
No issue with a WW reg.
Whether or not it is an import it looks a good motor.:)

    Not this particular one.

Generally, i discovered the following about the model:-

Plug in diagnostics should be used when checking out a model, to see fault codes and history.

The GM 5L40E gearbox is prone to failure, requiring an exchange or new unit.
Early diff failure should be cured by early recall.
Suspension airbags last c. 10 years before replacements necessary.
In tank ans slave fuel pumps can be troublesome
    Brake calipers prone to seisure
Pixels on dash and radio fail
    Rear wiper wash motor fails
Engine requires regular breather filter changes to protect turbo.

    To prolong gearbox life:-

Gear box oil recommended to be flushed through and changed every 10K miles
Gerabox filter every 20K miles recommended.
