    Try this:

    Sit in drivers seat
    1. Open drivers side door without the key in the ignition
    2. Put key in ignition - turn from off to on, wait 10 sec
    3. Push lock or unlock button twice, you should hear the sound of the lock mechanism.

    Both buttons should now work.

Not sure to be honest but it's power related. I've found it happen when the battery goes low, and also perhaps the key has been sat on or otherwise kept with one of the buttons depressed for a period. Chances are you'll need that fix again in the future!

I'll keep it on file ;-) thanks again.

Probably re-syncing the rolling code(s) in the key / vehicle. It probably doesn't look at the rolling code when locking, just for the unlock operation. If the key fob keeps getting pressed it will keep incrementing the rolling code, if the car is out of range and it gets pressed more times than the look ahead window in the vehicle software, the vehicle won't open. Can sometimes happen if little ones play with keys...

Not sure about this DublinDilbert to be honest. Reason being that the second key will work when one fails, even if it's been away from the car for a year or more.

I could always relate it to a weak battery.

Not saying you're wrong by the way. Perhaps there are several reasons for it happening because it's damn common.

Yea second key will have its own rolling code, which is different. It could well be a software bug in the ecu that's messing up its copy of the rolling code. I've never done any software on a Toyota, but they are all quite similar.

    I confirm that.

In addition, ECU is capable to store up to 4 remotes. You can wipe them off and store other ones as well. :)
