I am hoping to pick up a new camera soon for around the €500 mark will be able to go over budget...

I will be mainly using the camera for automotive events like drifting, car shows and so on but will be using it just for general pictures as well what would you recommend is a good camera now for that price range?

You would want a high shutter speed for events like drifting/hot rod racing etc...

A used 1D Mkii would do the job for that . My Dad used to shoot drifting and rallying with a 1D mk ii and a 70-200L IS USM ,which gave great results

Here's one on adverts near enough to your budget .

If you want to get a new camera a 60D would be ideal in my opinion

I would focus on a fast IS (image stabalised) zoom lens 200mm or so, most SLR's have shutters fast enough to stop motion...

Would the likes of a Nikon D3200 be a good choice?
