After many years in the game I'm putting together my first portfolio.

I'm using A3 size and plan to include copies (4 or 5 projects maybe) of my best work.

I have read on some websites that you should harmonise the font and blocks that you use across the portfolio which would lead one to believe that you would use your own title blocks. I had always thought that whatever company I worked for at the time would be the block that I used and that I would just scale the drawings down to A3?

Can anyone advise if there is a copyright issue involved here?

Personally I wouldn't put my own title blocks on drawings done for other companies, if I was mounting examples of my work on boards, then yes harmonise the fonts etc.

did you do the work? if the answers yes, then use their title block in the portfolio

My portfolio (A3 FTR) has drawings from the 3 different firms i've worked for, one firm even changed the titleblock (& standard fonts etc.) during my time there, so i actually have 4 different looking titleblocks & drawing set ups due to different office standards in each. Never entertained the idea of changing them to all look similar TBH. My CV shows my employment history & anyone worth their salt knows that different offices have different set ups & standards & the drawings reflect this.

    can i ask...

i havent had an interview in years, but at this stage is paper A3 folders not really cumbersome and inadequate?

i would have imagined at this stage people would go to interviews with usbs with pdfs of previous work??

I interviewed for my current position 2 years ago, when i queried the situation re: portfolios and/or PDF's/ online viewing they requested i bring a portfolio with me & not provide PDF's, I brought both anyway. They later told me they didnt look at my online portfolio either, despite the link being provided on my CV. So despite my best efforts to put my work out there it was still th eold fashioned physical portfolio they wanted to see on the day.

FTR, my A3 portfolio is quite neat & far from cumbersome, as despite my years of experience i prefer to limit it to no more than approx 20 drawings, quality over quantity i suppose you could say, thankfully that approach hasn't let me down to date.

When I applied for my current job I was asked to supply 10 drawings with my application which was made via email and then bring a physical portfolio to the interview, which I did in the form of an A3 portfolio.

A friend of mine did an interview recently via skype where her portfolio was discussed on screen.

I suppose it depends on the situation, its properly best to have one's portfolio ready both digitally and physically.
