Accountancy :Advice on best route

    Hi guys,

Just looking for advice on the accountancy route. I’m in the very early stages, starting a post grad in accounting in Sept which gives CAP 1 exemptions. I’m coming from a non – accounting/business background but have covered financial mgmt, econ and law modules which seem helpful for the modules in the post grad. I’m just enquiring about people’s experiences and advice. I have heard it may be possible to gain employment and perhaps even sponsorship from the post grad without the need to do the masters either in the milkround or after u wrap up. The feedback I got from friends was that I shouldn’t be too worried about constantly studying and working and that the 12 week study leave in the summer is sufficient for CAP2, although I assume you’d need to attend lectures throughout the year, whilst working. I obviously shouldn’t get too ahead of myself but wouldn’t mind knowing the path people took. I understand it’s generally a 3 year training contract and you do your final exams.
Any advice on what to expect or what prep could be done ahead of time would be appreciated. Cheers

All men must eventually die so it's irrelevant what they do in the interim!

It's a while since I did them but generally found that aptitude tended to win out against heavy studying as regards people who passed/failed. Did you do accounting or economics pre university? The post grads are generally pretty intensive so I imagine that after a month or so you will have a good idea whether you are suited. Lectures can be hit/miss depending on your workload.

where do you hope to do your post grad ?

I'm in the same boat and looking at the one offered in GMIT ? I heard from one of last years class that the lecturers are good but its intensive ?
