A huge congrats to Keith Whyte who just broke the 100k Irish record in an unreal time of 7hrs 03mins in Belguim.

Great stuff from him, it's been coming for a while with either him or Dan Doherty close over the past months.

Great reward for Keith for all the hard work he puts in and you will not meet a nicer guy.

Fantastic achievement. It probably wont get the attention and respect it deserves but I dont think that will worry Keith. Hes had his share of bad days at the office but persisted and got his reward. The 100k record had been under serious pressure for a while with Dan Doherty looking the most likely to do it up to this weekend. The likelyhood is that present record wont stand nearly as long as Keith himself leads the charge to be the first Irishman under 7 hours, with another 4 or 5 at least capable of doing it. There is a very strong group of ultra runners in this country now and will soon challenge strongly for medals at championships.

Had heard he was out. Didnt realise it was as serious. Its such a pity that this ****e always seems to happen to the nice guys. You couldn't meet a more genuine guy out running on the road.

It's awful to see such a great runner get such a terrible diagnosis. He's definitely one of the nice guys. It says a lot when all his closest rivals in Ireland are his biggest fans. Hopefully he'll find a way to get back running again.
